What to prepare before starting a website

A clear starting point removes uncertainty: a goal, content and a shared first priority.

Decide what should happen after a visit

Before choosing colours, write down what you want a visitor to do: book an appointment, understand a service or browse a catalogue. Choose one main action and describe who it is for. A local business website and a management platform may share visual elements, but they need very different user journeys.

Gather the material that explains the business

Prepare service descriptions, frequently asked questions, your own photographs and examples of your work. Mark what is ready and what needs writing or reviewing. If you do not have images yet, deciding early lets the design fit the available resources, without filling spaces with temporary content that never gets replaced.

Agree on a first version

Separate what you need to launch from what can come later. A short document listing pages, who approves each piece of content and essential features helps guide decisions. For example: services, projects and contact first; a private area once its purpose and operation are defined.

Test a real situation

Before calling the project finished, set a specific task: find a service and send an enquiry on a phone. Ask someone unfamiliar with the design to complete it. Watch where they hesitate and review that point. It is a simple way to move from opinions about appearance to a conversation about usefulness.
